Blended Learning: Creating an Individualized Learning Experience for Students

There are many “buzzwords” in education today and blended learning is at the top of the list.  Blended learning is an instructional strategy that combines face-to- face instruction with online learning. What does this mean? What does this look like in the classroom setting? Is it even possible to combine face-to- face instruction with online learning with middle school and high school students?

It’s possible!  I promise!

The blended model of learning has completely changed the way that I teach and facilitate student learning.  Through this process, I have been able to increase student engagement and create an environment of student choice.  I’ve been able to increase time spent on intervention and enrichment which promotes an individualized learning experience for students.  All students learn differently, so we need to modify our classroom practices in a way that supports the diverse learners in our classroom.  Through the blended learning process, it’s not only possible to reach these diverse learners, but it is easy.

Recently, I spoke at our districts “Plugged In” event about blended learning.  Below you will find my presentation, an overview of blended learning, a variety of resources for blended learning, and student’s opinions about blended learning in the Math classroom.  Check it out and let me know if you have any questions/thoughts on how I use these strategies in my classroom.
